Searching for an NFC business card in Dubai gives you a long list of shops, each with its own pitch. Most of the confusion comes from one fact: the chip is the cheap part. What matters is the link written on it and the digital card behind that link. Here are seven questions to ask before you pay, so the card you buy keeps working long after the first tap.
1. Does the chip hold a link or my details?
A good NFC card stores one thing: a web link. It does not hold your name, photo or phone number. That is why a card written with your MyInfo card address never goes out of date: you edit your digital card, and the same chip opens the new version. If a seller talks about "storing your contact details" on the chip, ask exactly what is written and whether you can change it.
2. Can I use my own link?
Ask whether the seller will write your card address onto the chip, for example https://www.myinfo.ae/yourname. You should own the destination. If the card only works with a page the seller controls, you depend on them every time you want to change something. With a MyInfo card you can program the chip yourself or ask the seller to do it.
3. Do I need to pay again to edit my card?
Editing should cost nothing extra. On MyInfo, updating your details, links and theme is part of the card itself, and the free plan already covers sharing by NFC. Ask the seller to confirm that edits, link changes and a new job title do not trigger another charge. For the full picture of what is free and what is Premium, read is MyInfo really free.
4. Will it work on every phone?
Most modern phones read NFC tags, but some Android phones need NFC switched on, and a few older phones cannot read tags at all. Ask for a test tap on an iPhone and an Android phone before you leave the shop or confirm the order, and read does it work on iPhone and Android so you know what to expect. Whatever the answer, print or share your QR code as a backup, as covered in NFC vs QR code business cards.
5. Is the price for the card or for software?
Separate the two. A physical card, tag or stand has a one-off price set by whoever sells it. The digital card is a different thing. MyInfo cards are free to create, and NFC cards and Premium upgrades are handled by verified partners who set their own prices, as explained in where to get NFC cards in the UAE. 6. What happens if the card stops working?
Ask who fixes it and how. Most dead taps come from a typo in the address, a missing https://, thick cases or metal behind the card, not a broken chip. Our NFC troubleshooting checklist covers the usual causes, and rewriting a chip takes under a minute.
7. How many cards do I need?
One card per person is normal, plus perhaps a stand for a reception desk or stall. Teams often start with a few cards and add more later. Ask whether the seller can write several cards at once and whether a team order changes the price.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an NFC card to use a MyInfo digital business card?
No. You can share a MyInfo card by link, QR code or WhatsApp without any physical card. An NFC card is an extra way to share in person, and the free plan is enough to use it.
What should an NFC card seller write on the chip?
Your full card address, starting with https://, saved as a web link (URL) record. The chip does not need your details, because visitors see whatever is on your live card when they tap.
