A lawyer's card is often a client's first impression of a firm, and it has to do something a printed card can't: stay current while staying strictly confidential. A digital business card lets you update your practice areas and title in seconds and gives you control over exactly who can see it. Use this checklist to set one up properly.
Build the card
- Name, title and firm. Use your exact title (Partner, Legal Consultant, Advocate) and the firm you practise under.
- Practice areas. List them clearly in a text section — Corporate & Commercial, Litigation, Family Law — so a prospective client knows immediately if you handle their matter.
- Bar or licence details. Add your registration in the About text or a dedicated section, exactly as you would on a printed card.
- Office location and languages spoken. Clients choosing between firms often decide on this alone.
- A direct enquiry channel. A WhatsApp or email link button, kept separate from any case-specific communication.
- Firm website and LinkedIn. Link out to fuller credentials and past work. See the lawyers and legal consultants page for the full picture.
Keep it confidential
A MyInfo card is a public page by default, so treat it exactly like a printed card: never a client's name, a case number or matter details. If a card should reach only specific contacts — a private client list, or a matter that needs discretion — set it to Private with a six-digit access code on a Premium card. Visitors need the code before they see anything. See privacy and access.
Share it at every touchpoint
- Client meetings and consultations. Show the QR code on your phone or tap an NFC card for a one-tap handover across the table.
- Tribunals, conferences and bar association events. The same tap or scan works in a courthouse corridor or a conference hall.
- Email signatures and correspondence. Add your card link so every letter or PDF you send carries your current title and firm.
- Reception. Display the QR code where a visiting client can reach the right lawyer without asking.
Capture every enquiry, without crossing a line
On a Premium card, Exchange Contact lets a prospective client leave their name, phone number and a short message describing what they need — never a substitute for a proper intake form, but enough to route the enquiry to the right practice area instead of a note that gets lost. Every enquiry lands in your lead inbox, and you can export leads into a spreadsheet for your practice management system.
One look for the whole firm
Create a firm-wide theme so every lawyer's card carries the same colours and layout, whichever practice area they're in. Update it once from theme settings and every card updates with it — useful when a firm rebrands or a new associate joins.
Before you go live
- Open your card on your phone and check every button, especially your enquiry channel and firm link.
- Ask a colleague to scan your QR code or tap your NFC card.
- Confirm your title, practice areas and bar registration are current before your next hearing or client meeting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my card private for specific clients only?
Yes. On a Premium card, set it to Private and protect it with a six-digit access code, then share the code only with the clients or contacts who should have it.
Does Exchange Contact collect case details?
No. It only collects a name, phone number and an optional short message — never case numbers or matter details, which should always go through your firm's proper channels.
