Your photo is usually the first thing a visitor looks at when your card opens on their phone, before they read a word of your title or About text. A clear photo and a well-chosen banner make a card feel trustworthy in the first second; a stretched, dark or cluttered one undoes a lot of otherwise good content.
Why the photo matters more than it seems
A digital business card is often opened right after a handshake, a tap of an NFC card, or a scanned QR code — the visitor is comparing the face in front of them with the one on the screen. A recognisable, current photo builds trust immediately. A logo, a group photo, or an old picture makes people hesitate, especially the first time you share your card with someone new.
What makes a good profile photo
- A clear, well-lit face. Natural daylight from a window beats a dim office light or a strong backlight.
- A recent photo. Use one from the last year or two, not from a decade ago.
- A simple background. A plain wall or blurred background keeps the focus on you.
- A square, front-facing crop. MyInfo displays profile photos in a fixed shape, so crop close before you upload rather than uploading a full-body shot and hoping it centres well.
- A business, not a business card. Skip photos of your paper card, logo-only images, or screenshots — use an actual photo of you or, for a company card, a clean logo on a plain background.
Choosing and sizing your banner
The banner sits behind your profile photo at the top of the card, so treat it like a header image rather than a second profile photo:
- Use a wide, landscape image — a storefront, an office, a product shot, or a simple brand-colour graphic all work well.
- Avoid images with important detail near the edges; the banner is cropped to fit different phone widths.
- Keep text out of the banner itself. Add real text using a text section instead, so it stays readable and searchable.
- If you don't have a suitable photo, a plain image in your brand colour is safer than a busy stock photo.
Upload it the right way
Both images come from the same place. Open Media in your dashboard, upload the file, then choose it as your Profile image or Banner image from the Content tab in the card editor. See the full steps in add your photo and banner.
Keep these limits in mind before you upload:
- Only JPEG, PNG and WebP files are accepted.
- Each photo can be up to 1 MB, and very large pixel dimensions are refused even under that size — resize first if your camera shoots large files.
- Your account can store up to 10 photos, 3 MB in total, so delete ones you no longer use to make room for a new banner or headshot.
If an upload fails, check the file type, size and your remaining photo quota first — see fix photo upload problems for the full list of checks.
Make it match your brand
Once your photo and banner are in place, the rest of the card's look — colours, fonts, photo shape and spacing — comes from your theme. Pick a built-in template close to your brand colours, or build a custom theme, so the photo and banner sit inside a design that feels consistent rather than default.
Frequently asked questions
What image formats and sizes does MyInfo accept?
JPEG, PNG and WebP files, up to 1 MB each. Very large pixel dimensions are refused even if the file size is under 1 MB, so resize oversized camera photos before uploading. Your account can hold up to 10 photos and 3 MB in total across your media library.
Can I use a logo instead of a personal photo?
Yes. A clean logo on a plain background works well for a company card or a card shared on behalf of a brand rather than a person. For a personal card meeting people face to face, a real photo of you generally builds more trust than a logo alone.
