How to write an About section that gets read

How to write the About section on your digital business card so people actually read it, with UAE examples and where longer text belongs.

Most About sections say too much and communicate too little. A visitor who taps your card at a Dubai networking event or from a WhatsApp share spends a few seconds deciding whether to read on, so the About text on your MyInfo card has to earn that time, not fill it.

Lead with what you do, not your job history

Open with the one sentence a stranger needs: what you do and who you do it for. "Mortgage advisor helping first-time buyers in Dubai get approved faster" tells a visitor more in one line than a paragraph of career background. Save the history for a conversation, not the card.

Keep it to two or three sentences

Your card's About field is meant to be short. Edit your card details recommends a few lines, and for good reason: a long block of text on a phone screen gets skipped, while two or three sharp sentences get read in full. If you have more to say, a title-plus-text block is the right tool, not a longer About — see the next section.

Write for the reader, not for yourself

Swap "I have 12 years of experience in real estate" for "I'll find you a home that fits your budget and your commute." The first sentence is about you; the second gives the reader a reason to keep reading. Every line should answer the visitor's real question: what's in this for me if I contact you?

Add one concrete detail

A specific detail beats a vague claim. "Clinic in Jumeirah, open Saturdays" or "Serving Abu Dhabi and Al Ain" tells people more than "trusted and experienced." If your work is location-bound — a salon, a clinic, a restaurant — say where, since that is often the deciding factor for someone scrolling on their phone.

Where longer text belongs

If you genuinely need more than a short bio — services, hours, a fuller introduction — don't stretch the About field. Add a text section instead: free cards get one, Premium cards up to three, each with its own title and up to 600 characters. Keep About as the hook and let a text section carry the detail.

Update it when your work changes

A bio that made sense last year can go stale fast — a new specialty, a new city, a promotion. Since updating your card takes about 30 seconds, there's no reason to leave an outdated line sitting on a page people are actively sharing.

Frequently asked questions

How long should my About section actually be?

Two or three sentences is usually enough — long enough to say what you do and who you help, short enough to be read on a phone in a few seconds. If you need more space, use a separate text section rather than lengthening About.

Can I write my About section in Arabic?

Yes. Your card's About field accepts any language, including Arabic, so you can write it to match the audience you serve, or add a text section in a second language if you regularly work with both Arabic and English-speaking clients.
