A digital business card is public by default, which is exactly what makes it useful at events and on WhatsApp — and exactly why you should think twice before typing your personal mobile number into it. Here is how to stay reachable without handing that number to everyone who scans your code.
Use the right number for the right field
Your MyInfo card has two number fields: Mobile phone and Office phone. If your personal cell doubles as your work line, that is fine — but if you have a work number, a landline, or a WhatsApp Business number, put that in Mobile phone and leave your personal line off the card entirely. Update either field any time from the Content tab; see edit your card details.
Let WhatsApp carry the conversation
Many UAE professionals give visitors a WhatsApp button instead of a raw phone number. A WhatsApp Business account keeps client chats separate from personal messages, and you control when you reply. Add it as a social icon so people tap through to a chat, not a dial pad.
Send visitors to one action instead of a full profile
If a card exists purely so people can save your contact or message you, turn on bypass. Visitors are sent straight to a Save Contact download or to one social link, such as WhatsApp, and never see a phone number typed on the page at all. Set it up under send visitors straight to your contact.
Make the card private for a smaller audience
For a card meant only for chosen clients or VIP contacts — where you are comfortable sharing more, including a direct line — set the card to Private with a six-digit access code instead of leaving it public. Only people you give the code to can open it. Details are in privacy and private cards.
Treat every field like a public poster
Anything on a public card — numbers, email, address — can be seen by anyone with the link, QR code or NFC tap, and public cards can be indexed by search engines. The rule is simple: only put a number on your card that you are comfortable with a stranger dialling. See what is public on a digital business card for the full picture.
A quick before-you-publish check
Open your own card as a visitor would. Ask which number is showing, whether it is the one you want strangers to have, and whether a WhatsApp button or bypass link would serve better. It takes a minute and it is much easier to fix now than after the card is on a hundred people's phones. Create your card and set it up the way you want from the start.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a work number instead of my personal mobile on MyInfo?
Yes. Put any number you want visitors to call in the Mobile phone or Office phone field — it does not have to be your personal cell. Change it any time from the Content tab.
Does WhatsApp on my card show my phone number to visitors?
Adding WhatsApp as a social icon opens a chat when tapped; visitors do not need to see the number typed elsewhere on the card if you leave the phone fields for a different number or use bypass to send them straight to WhatsApp.
